For the last few weeks I’ve been posting scenes from a Junkyard Planet, my upcoming book. Today, I’m happy to announce that Bloomberg Businessweek just posted a long excerpt from Junkyard Planet. The passage you’ll read is from a chapter titled “Big Waste Country,” in which I describe a week-long road-trip across the United States with Johnson Zeng, a roving Chinese scrap metal trader. Below, Johnson in South Carolina in 2011.
I hope you enjoy the excerpt – and especially Johnson. He’s a great guy, and an ideal example of how the globalization of your recycling bin is transforming your world. Junkyard Planet: Travels in the Billion Dollar Trash Trade, will be published by Bloomsbury on November 12. Pre-order here!
